Mimics Monthly April 2025
April showers usually bring May flowers, but this month also brings us a few new, exciting things at Mimics, including the first steps towards what will eventually be our new premiere TTRPG event! But first, let’s talk about what’s going on this month, what is out as of the release of this letter, and let’s be a bit honest about what might be happening in the Board Game end of things with the recent news about Tariffs.
Dragonstorm and Casual Commander
The first journey back to Tarkir in a good long while has landed at Mimics! While we sold through a lot of what we had on pre-release weekend, we are looking at a restock this week and will be drafting the bajeezes out of this set!
Also new this month, we have a new alternative to Sunday commander League, with Casual Commander every Wednesday night at 6PM! Hosted by our community, this more beginner friendly MTG event is designed to be a place to unwind and play some friendly Commander on a weekday! 
Daggerheart and Mimics Presents!!
Starting on Tuesday evenings, our very own Jae and Jay will be running a few tables of Daggerheart, the exciting new RPG from the folks at Darrington Press. This will be part of an ongoing effort for us all to lead more RPG events in store, and is the first step towards what we hope to be a “West Marches” style larger, interconnected RPG. We are all really excited by this idea, and we hope eventually we can take over an entire day with this huge storytelling adventure, and we can’t wait to share more about what we’re doing. Let’s Talk About Tariffs
Well, as you’ve probably seen, there are a ton of new, scary tariffs on a lot of countries. While there have been estimates at a couple of outlets, and from a couple of Board Game companies about what this all will mean, we just want to let you know that we all still don’t know for sure what to expect. We know prices will go up when we buy things, but exactly by how much, and on what, and when, that’s still unclear. From what we understand of manufacturing, board games may likely be the first hit by price increases, so it can’t hurt to get ahead on a game you’ve had your eye on. We will of course keep y’all updated, and we thank y’all for being so supportive of us as a small business in these times of weirdness. We’ll do our best to keep the costs of these products reasonable while maintaining our ability to keep the store open and functional.
Notable Events this Month
A Galaxy of Cards
After the success of our store showdown, we are happy that we are going to be hosting Star Wars Unlimited twice this month on the 19th (Draft) and the 26th (Constructed), both at 6PM. We are so excited to be doing organized play from a galaxy far far away, and hope to grow the scene here at Mimics! We all made fun of Phantom Menace but man disputes on the taxation of Naboo’s trade routes is looking way different these days.
Get Your Goggles On
Digimon World Convergence is dropping on our Prerelease event April 11th! They’re really making lateral moves here with Appmon linking that will attach to the sides of your digimon cards for literally a new dimension of strategies. This is the first Digimon set where we at Mimic’s will have a whole bunch of booster boxes in stock, so we don’t have to be cagey about it anymore! Thanks, me-8-months-ago, for realizing just how great and active a Digimon community we had!
