You're a member of a ragtag band of adventurers who've found themselves busted and broke in the frontier village of Stumble Step. One evening, as you're drinking your last copper around the fire at the Last Inn a rogue storm rips through town. The next morning, Gargablast the village sage requests your attention. The storm has unearthed what he thinks to be an entrance to the long lost Tomb of the Serpent Kings. An ancient crypt complex devoted to the rulers of a bygone civilization, filled with rumored treasure and esoteric knowledge. In return for a detailed map of the complex, Gargablast will award each surviving adventurer his mentorship, appreciation, and a magic item from his personal collection.
Old School Essentials (OSE) is a restatement of the 1981 B/X ruleset. This game intends to stick closely to the rules-as-written of OSE Classic Fantasy in an effort for the players and referee alike to experience an archetypal game of dungeon-crawling, exploration, problem solving, and fantasy combat.
This game is designed to be beginner friendly. Tomb of the Serpent Kings, by SKERPLES (coinsandscrolls.blogspot.com) is a unique “teaching dungeon.” Experienced players are welcome, but any previous familiarity with role-playing games is not necessary.
The referee will provide pre-gen characters (using OSE Rogues Gallery), dice, rulebooks, pencils and general game necessities.
