Outgunned: The Jackalopes (Morsels)

The year is 2006, in a New Orleans that never was.

It's been about one year since Hurricane Katrina, and there are still parts of the city where the storm has never passed. That's the case for some people as well, in more ways than one.

A traincar containing chemicals developed by the company Pentex was derailed by the flooding. Countless animals and five confirmed humans were exposed to them as they were swept away by the floodwaters.

Exposure to these chemicals should have killed every biological organism that even came close to them stone dead. But that's not quite what happened.

The five human victims woke up in a government laboratory, their genetic makeup having been hybridized with other animals that were exposed. Pentex had paid good money to keep them out of sight, and to be disposed of when they no longer served any research purposes.

Eventually, the five all made contact with each other and broke out of the facility, escaping back into the bayou.

Now, they call themselves the Jackalopes, after the hybrid animal from American folklore. They keep the people of New Orleans safe from the predation of mutant monstrosities and corporate executives alike.

Justice is a force of nature.
